As an indirect fire infantryman in the Army National Guard, you’ll be in command of the most powerful weapon in the infantry: the mortar. As part of a mortar squad, section, or platoon, you will engage in challenging activities that may include parachuting from a troop transport plane to access locations where you will build mortars and camouflage their positions. You will also locate and neutralize enemy mines. forforAs your skills increase, so will your responsibilities. Members of the advance team supervise and train other soldiers, direct and control mortar squads, provide tactical and technical guidance to subordinates, and supervise the construction of mortar positions. Forward indirect fire infantrymen are responsible for receiving and implementing combat orders, directing soldiers in offensive and defensive operations, and requesting, observing, and adjusting indirect support fire. forfor Job duties

  • Install, load and fire three types of mortars
  • Employ crew and weapons in offensive, defensive and retrograde ground combat
  • Operate , clean and store automatic weapons
  • Employ, shoot and recover antipersonnel and anti-tank mines
  • Conduct scouting missions to detect enemy troops and weapon locations
