Job Brief
A professional Database Administrator (DBA) will keep the database up and running smoothly 24/7. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users.
As a cross-disciplinary member of our development teams, you will oversee multiple aspects of our database administration processes, including backup and recovery procedures, clustering and load balancing, and query optimization. This is a technical and specialized position in support of our BI and development goals, so our ideal applicant has a bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field. You should also have strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
What You'll Do
- Build database systems of high availability and quality depending on each end user’s specialised role
- Design and implement database in accordance to end users information needs and views
- Define users and enable data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner
- Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data
- Minimise database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
- Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
- Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
- Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
- Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
What You Know
- Advanced MySQL Competency
- Advanced level SQL competency
- 8-10 years’ experience working with MySQL databases.
- Have excellent technical documentation skills, and excellent communication across multiple cultures and time zones
- Familiarity with Version Control systems such as GitLab
- Databases: MySQL
- Monitoring tools
- A background working in a high-volume transaction environment, and systems integration would be advantageous and be able to demonstrate a sustained track record of delivering high-quality outputs, on-time and to product or business specifications.
- Assertiveness: ability to communicate effectively and explain a point of view convincingly.
- Communication: excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must have great inter- and intra-personal skills.
- Teamwork: ability to work reliably and responsibly with internal and external colleagues to achieve departmental and organisational goals.
- Have sound critical judgement to make good decisions, be someone the team can respect, trust, and depend on.
- Formal training data architecture or design would be advantageous.
- Be focused and passionate about customer and company success.
- Have problem solving skills, logical thinking, and analytical abilities.
- Display foresight, be systematic and provide orderly planning and have attention to detail.
Education
- Bachelors/Master’s in software or related field from a reputable institute.
