Leadership All About Stores

As an executive store intern, you’ll gain a realistic and valuable assessment of your executive team lead role over a defined period of time and across multiple areas of the business to drive guest experience and impact finances of your store, staff and operational performance. During our 8-week summer program, you will work closely with a mentor as you learn different areas of business and functions at our stores. You’ll spend your days leading and motivating a team, driving sales results, product merchandising and providing an exceptional guest experience. It will be your leadership that will guide your team to grow and achieve goals.

  • Knowledge of customer service fundamentals and experience in building and managing a first-team customer culture inwhole store
  • Skills in customer engagement; problem solving and resolution
  • Knowledge of retail business fundamentals
  • Experience in defining and planning department(s) monthly/quarterly workload to support business priorities and managing a team to deliver sales and service goals
  • Experience in managing a team of hourly members, team leaders and creating business strategies and goals
  • Skills in recruitment, selection and management of talents from time team members and leaders

Responsibilities

As a store executive intern, no two days are alike, but a typical day will likely include the following responsibilities

  • Deliver an exceptional guest experience by ensuring that team members have the knowledge and authority to do the right thing for guests
  • Provide new ideas and recommend solutions for business or business opportunities team
  • Take the initiative to learn to be a Target leader, seeking opportunities for growth and development; learn continuously throughout the internship experience
  • Commit to learning the expectations of Target leaders and use them to personally develop by asking questions and seeking feedback
  • Actively participate in internship program training activities, development opportunities and events.
  • Demonstrate willingness to take risks; step out of your comfort zone and take on new assignments
  • Partner with leaders on TM performance by teaching, coaching, training, and deliveringtimely performance feedback
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; lead the team to work the same way and hold others accountable for that commitment
  • Understand business reporting and guest insights to understand, troubleshoot, and track areas of opportunity. Work with store leaders every day to set goals and expectations
  • Understand all areas of the business to develop business acumen
  • Promote an inclusive and diverse approach to a safe and secure culture
  • Perform key roles and responsibilities by department through internship rotations, as trained.
  • All other functions based on business needs

  • Junior or Senior Class Position in Preferred Rise
  • Previous retail experience preferred but not required
  • Strong interest in working in retail
  • Leadership skills and team-oriented thinking
  • Learn and adapt to today’s technology needs
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
  • Receptive and helpful attitude
  • Effective communication skills

About

  • Access all areas of the building to answer questions from guests or staff members
  • Interpret instructions, reports and information
  • Handle cash register operations accurately
  • Go up and down stairs
  • Scan, handle and move goods efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving goods up to 15 pounds and occasionally moving goods up to £40
