Job Description
The Call Center representative will serve as the first point of contact for patients who schedule outpatient therapy and medical appointments. During the scheduling of calls, the representative of the outpatient services call center will be responsible for managing the pre-registration data in the Cerner system. In addition, the outpatient call center representative will be responsible for screening unscheduled calls that come through the Center to the appropriate party.

Main Responsibilities
The call center representative will
- Communicates with patients and physicians over the phone to assess patient needs to determine the appropriate care provider or manage appointments
- Register and schedule new ones patients fortherapy and physician services based on orders received, consultation outcome, urgency of care, and patient convenience in relation to time and location.
- Conducts call reminders for patients when designated by the call center manager.
- Informs Shirley Ryan Abilitylab websites about appointment-related issues, including rescheduling, cancellation and late arrival notification.
- Obtain treatment authorizations from insurance companies and contacts with doctors.
- Manages the authorization status of multiple payers, including secondary Medicare, IDPA, and Workers’ Compensation payers.
- Responds to requests for test results/prescription refill from the Outpatient Service Center, providing the requested information.
- Maintains Allied Health’s database in consultation with the various websites.
- Maintains referring physician information including licensing, government eligibility and contact information in a centralized database.
- Perform all other roles that may be assigned in the best interest of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
Experience required
- Associate degree or certificate in a medical administration program is preferable
- Minimum 1 year healthcare experience with knowledge of healthcare systems health. It is preferable to have previous experience in call center.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and insurance.
- Microsoft Application Proficiency: Intermediate level skills in using Outlook, Word and Excel. Experienceprevious with Cerner Millennium preferably.
- Proficiency in typing skills. Applying a variety of moderately complex PC software and office equipment (multi-line phone, metrics board, etc.)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interview patients/clients and obtain medical and financial information pertinent information.
- Active listening and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and follow-up.
- Proven problem solving and decision making skills.
- Ability to handle a high volume of calls and stressful situations when quick action is mandatory.

Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to the Director, Call Center
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
