This Job Listing is about Aiven in Bucharest, Romania 2022
Aiven is a hypergrowth Platform-as-a-Service company offering the best in open-source and data technologies on multiple cloud platforms.

Headquartered in Helsinki with hubs in Berlin, Boston, Paris, Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo and Toronto, Aiven provides managed open-source data technologies, such as PostgreSQL, Apache Kafka and M3, on all major clouds.

In 2022, we raised Series D funding of $210M to fuel our global expansion, the comprehensiveness of our platform and to focus on new programs in sustainability and diversity in tech.

Open source is at our core. We compensate our employees who contribute to open source outside of their daily work with Aiven and we have set up an Open Source Program Office (OSPO), to actively focus on giving back to the open-source community.

Our Mission and Values

Aiven’s mission is to enable customers to drive business results from open source, transforming their businesses. We love to operate our favorite tools at scale and empower our customers, in over 60 countries, to do great work.

We live our values of courage, openness and ownership every day, and continually strive to ensure that every Aivener is empowered to contribute creatively and meaningfully, in a work environment where they have the tools to succeed and the comfort and support to be themselves.

About the role:

We’re hiring a senior full-stack engineer to work on our Aiven Console. The Aiven Console enables our users to explore and control their data services via a graphical web user interface. As Aiven Console is often the customer’s first touchpoint with Aiven’s data platform and plays a big part in our product-led growth strategy, we want it to be an intuitive and beautiful experience, while not forgetting the needs of our more experienced users.

We are looking for product-minded engineers who have a keen interest in the business and user behavior, are proactive with product development ideas and tradeoffs, and want to understand the “Why?” behind all things. As a product-minded engineer you communicate well with engineers and non-engineers alike and are interested in how other functions work.

As we are looking for a senior engineer, we expect you to raise the bar for the team through technical mentorship. We’d love you to show us how we can improve what we do. Our teams are proud of what we build and value curiosity, healthy debate, and exchange of ideas.

Your responsibilities:

Here are some example areas you may work on:

  • Building the user experience for a new service. (In the past year we introduced Aiven for Apache Flink and Aiven for Clickhouse to the Aiven Console.)
  • Creating completely new platform-wide capabilities or extending existing ones. (Like enabling our users to tag their Aiven resources.)
  • Designing and implementing new RESTful APIs or improving the performance and capabilities of existing ones.
  • Contributing to our company-wide in-house design system.
  • Making sure our technical foundation stays in shape as our code and user base grows. (In April 2022 we migrated the final bits of the Aiven Console code base from JavaScript to strict TypeScript.)
  • Contributing to the team’s backlog by owning the technical planning of a feature delivery.

Requirements:

You’ll probably have at least five years’ experience building full-stack web applications, but more than the years we care about what you have been doing. We want to hear what you’ve worked on, how it was built, and what you learned while doing that.

Our frontend is built with TypeScript, React and Redux, and our backend centers on Python and PostgreSQL. As such, to succeed as a senior full-stack engineer at Aiven you have:

  • Strong programming skills, including testing
  • Experience building web-facing applications end-to-end, including everything between the browser and the database
  • Proficiency in TypeScript
  • Experience in Python, or proven ability to learn new programming languages
  • Basic knowledge of working with relational databases
  • Fluent communication skills in English, written and verbal

Benefits

  • A dynamic environment in a rapidly growing, international business
  • An agile working environment with short decision paths
  • Compensation for open-source contributions made in your free time
  • Flexible working hours, including remote work
  • Paid time off for vacation, personal reasons, illness, parental leaves, and public holidays
  • Choose the devices and tools that make you work the best including a mobile phone and subscription
  • Grow-with-the-flow with access to an individual learning budget, our Aiven Library, individual coaching, and popular online learning platforms
  • Home office furniture and internet stipend for fully-remote Aiveners
  • Participation in employee stock option plan
  • Our Employee Assistance Program and other wellness programs
  • Offices packed with snacks, soft drinks, treats, and fruits

You will be part of a highly-skilled, tight-knit and growing team, making your contribution essential to what is becoming a truly unique success story. If you’re interested, send us your application and we’ll take it from there.

As well as the above Global Benefits, we have regional benefits specific to your country of residence. We would be happy to discuss these further with you during the interview process.
