Job purpose

Lead the implementation of effective corrosion control & monitoring processes, under Lead Asset Integrity N-4 scope’s; through (1) Oversees, coordinates, guides and monitor an effective corrosion control services & monitoring techniques to assure safe and reliable condition of the process pipelines & equipment and reduce equipment related downtime, and (2) Maintains technical integrity by identifying & mitigating risks in a timely & efficient manner and in compliance to regulatory, industry standards and department strategy; in order to ensure and support Asset Integrity.

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Conduct periodic monitoring of identified critical process parameters/ IOW’s and co-ordinates with Process/ Ops team for action on any abnormalities or upsets and communicates findings.
  • Performs, coordinates and implements online corrosion monitoring and control program for critical process equipment, piping and circuits.
  • Monitors corrosion rate and identifies possible causes and remedies to bring the corrosion rate under control. Communicates findings and observations with other divisions.
  • Coordinate with Plant inspection team for any corrosion related failures, which includes but not limited to combined site visit, collecting sludge samples/failed samples and providing corrosion input to the inspection report.
  • Monitor and ensure all documents related to corrosion loops (example marked PFD, P&ID and isometrics, etc.) Thickness Monitoring Level & Integrity Operating Windows are prepared, filed and maintained.

  • Provide input in appropriate material selection recommendations for the running plant.
  • Coordinate with Process Department in evaluating the effectiveness of Corrosion Inhibitor programs by setting and evaluating KPI’s and provide feedback/recommendations.
  • Coordinate with Electrical Team to monitor cathodic protection systems in the plant to ensure proper corrosion protection and function
  • Provide input recommendations of suitable painting and coating systems for external, immersed and high temperature applications etc.
  • Participate in failure investigation and Root Cause Analysis as required for assigned area/units.
  • Participate in Risk Based Inspection process by identifying corrosion loops and degradation mechanisms and provide the Material & Corrosion input to the RBI analyst as and when required.
  • Lead the review process of documents of new projects / modifications related to material selection, corrosion control & plant inspection monitoring, etc.
  • Review and ensure hand-over documents have appropriate details on material specifications and processes in line with contractual requirements.

Education requirements

Minimum qualification required is a college graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering , Metallurgy/Chemical or equivalent

Language requirements

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) | Arabic – Native (desirable)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

  • +7 years of total experience within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Experience and well versed in field investigation, inspections, troubleshooting, performance checks, data compilation, etc.
  • Understanding of Process Plant (P& ID / PFD) & Engineering drawings and OEM manuals.
  • Knowledge in software applications like Meridium, PI, and RBI etc.

Knowledge of:

  • Corrosion Monitoring Techniques & Corrosion Inhibitors & Corrosion Control Measures
  • Coating & Cathodic Protection
  • NACE, ASME and other industry codes
  • RBI, RCA and Defect Elimination.
  • Risk Assessments, HAZOPS & Safety
  • Good knowledge in QA/QC, ISO 9001, ISO 1400 and HSE plans
  • Knowledge & experience in NDT & specialized equipment inspection techniques.
  • Knowledge of inspection, corrosion engineering, welding, materials and QA / QC.
  • Sound judgment in technical matters with good skills in engineering field materials specifications, integrity inspection, plant design optimization/modification and applicable code &standards.
  • Familiar with methodologies/techniques which are applicable to the RBI Practice such as (hazard identification techniques).
  • Working knowledge of design, manufacture, metallurgy, applicable code & standard associated with inspection of plant/equipment and familiar with QA/QC systems and procedures
