John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. (JBSS) is looking for a Junior Packaging Engineer to lead major packaging initiatives at JBSS and provide technical support for new product development, enhancements of quality and customer support projects.
JBSS is a $ 850 million company in the growing and trending nut category that competes among consumers, commercial ingredients and international trade channels. The company produces nuts and nut-based snacks under its own brands (Fisher, Orchard Valley, Hunter Mix and Squirrel Brand) and under private and contracted brands.
Responsibility:
- Serves as primary contact for packaging on new product launches; manages the technical specifications; acts as a cross-functional guide for tactical project executions.
- Conducts plant trials focusing on packaging supply chains; technically addresses packaging quality complaints; conducts packaging studies, including data collection and analysis.
- Uses functional/technical skills to advance opportunities to improve quality, reduce costs and provide added value to customers.
- Work with cross-functional team functions to launch new items, both under brand and private label. Manages timing, specifications and documentation of packaging, from the concept stage through to launch.
- Manages packaging material development and improvement projects. Work directly with engineers, machine operators and maintenance workers.Create SOPs, centerlines and work instructions related to packaging. Provides training for the appropriate personnel performing packaging activities. Identify, propose and execute projects to improve performance and reliability.
- Review and facilitate changes to product and packaging process, specifications and content related to packaging. Collaborate with Engineering on capital expenditures for new packaging processes and equipment. Develop and execute test methods, validations and protocols for packaging related developments.
- Work with Engineering, Marketing, R&D and Procurement on strategic packaging development and represent the company’s capabilities when needed for customers.
- Optimize materials. Consult suppliers in the development of packaging for components and materials. Supports the supplier quality process.
- Promotes a high level of creativity and independence in the design and development of new or improved packaging processes and projects. Stay up to date on packaging innovations across the industry. It supports all packaging platforms/systems in the company’s factories.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in industry, CPG favorite food
- Experience with automated packaging equipment
- Experience in the production environment
- Strong communication/interpersonal skills
- Outstanding analytical skills and detailed problem solving skills
