Description: Special Agent: Psychology/Counseling:
FBI special agents apply their professional experience and unique skills to their jobs. Many come from professional backgrounds such as psychology, forensic psychology, counseling, and social work. You can expect ongoing specialized training once on board and opportunities to work on some of the Bureau’s more complex cases. The scale and scope of our investigations provide unique challenges unlike anything you might be working on in the private sector. Your ultimate mission: to protect the American people and uphold the United States Constitution.

Salary level:

  • $ 62,556.00 – $ 80,721.00

Salary is commensurate with experience and position.

Duties: Candidates must:

  • Adhere to rigorous standards of conduct.
  • Undergo rigorous background investigations, credit checks and polygraphs to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartment Information (SCI) Authorization.
  • Pass a Physical Fitness Test (PFT); must be physically fit to complete training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and maintain a high level of fitness throughout his career.
  • Pass a medical exam, which includes,but it is not limited to meeting visual and auditory standards.
  • Successfully completes approximately 19 weeks of work as a special agent trainee, while residing at the FBI Academy at Quantico.
  • Upon graduation from the FBI Academy, be available for relocation to any of the FBI’s 56 offices, including San Juan, Puerto Rico, or remote resident agencies (satellite offices) to meet the FBI’s needs. Special agents rarely return to their processing office. Applicants must ensure their families are prepared for and support this transfer.
  • Throughout your career, be available for temporary positions anywhere in the world, on a temporary or long-term basis.
  • Work a minimum of 50 hours per week, which may include irregular hours, and be on call 24/7, including holidays and weekends.
  • Be available and able to participate in arrests, carry out search warrants, raids and similar assignments.

Additionally, all Special Agent candidates must successfully complete the Special Agent Selection System (SASS), a mentally and physically demanding process designed to find only the most capable candidates. The selection process typically takes a year or more to complete.

Key Requirements: Applicants must:

  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or above (preferably in psychology, social work, counseling or similar fields) from a college or universityaccredited in the United States.
