Position Description

Saudi Aramco is seeking a Data Governance Specialist to join the Special Projects Organization (SPO) of the Digital Transformation Admin Area.

SPO is responsible for the following: providing developing, delivering, and maintaining an enterprise data strategy/governance, providing relevant quality assurance to the Enterprise Data Committee, supporting analysis and remediation of strategic data, and conducting assessments to ensure that relevant policies and procedures are in place at all times. This organization is also responsible for managing digital transformation (DT) specific projects, DT risk, governance and compliance, in addition to building and sustaining a corporate digital culture.

The Data Governance Specialist’s primary role is to lead and manage corporate-wide data governance activities. The position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to a corporate data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices at all levels of the organization, to achieve the required level of consistency, quality, and protection to meet overall business digital needs. The Data Governance Specialist will work closely with relevant organizations, to ensure escalation for governance, data quality, and protection issues. In addition, the Data Governance Specialist will also work closely with business and operational areas to improve the quality and value of core data assets, and respond to regulatory protection requirements.

Minimum Requirements

As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or Information Management, from a recognized and approved program. An advanced degree is preferred.

You will have 10 years of experience in a major organization, with large-scale data management and oversight experience, including at least five years in a senior management role, or transformation leadership experience preferably within the oil and gas industry.

  • You must have knowledge of industry leading data quality and data protection management practices.
  • You will have practical track records in data governance practices, business, and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection.
  • You should possess knowledge of data-related governance regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues.
  • You will be able to demonstrate consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change, and performance measurement system design.
  • You should have a knowledge of risk data architecture and technology solutions.
  • You are expected to be widely recognized as a subject matter expert in the data governance domain.


Duties & Responsibilities

You will be required to perform the following:

Establish and govern an enterprise Data Governance Implementation Plan, including strategic priorities for development of information-based capabilities.

Rollout an enterprise-wide data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality and the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organization behavior, policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools, and data architecture.

Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance, and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of Saudi Aramco principal information assets.

Serve as a liaison between business and operational areas and technology, to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated, and well understood, and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning.

Develop and maintain inventory of the enterprise information maps, including authoritative systems and owners.

Assist in the facilitation of Saudi Aramco existing data quality standards, data protection standards, and adoption requirements across the enterprise.

Define indicators of performance and quality metrics, and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements.

Lead and comprise resources from the business and operations areas, as well as IT organization, to achieve their objectives; and resolve issues escalated from data governance representatives for business and operational areas.

In conjunction with IT organization and other stakeholders, provide progress reports to the Digital Transformation Officer, and oversee periodic updates to SPO.

Coordinate data sources to eliminate redundancy and streamline the expense related to those services.

Identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets, to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace; and represent data as a strategic business asset at the Digital Transformation Officer and Senior Management levels.

About Us

The Engineering & Project Management (E&PM) business line studies, plans and oversees the construction of the Company’s new facilities, including some of the biggest and most complex projects in the petroleum industry. Recently, Saudi Aramco completed the largest capital program in its history that included new or expanded oil, gas and petrochemical facilities, raising maximum sustainable crude oil production capacity to 12 million barrels per day and significantly increasing gas production and processing capacities. Among the recently completed projects was the largest crude oil increment in the history of the industry: Khurais, with a production capacity of 1.2 million barrels per day. More challenges lie ahead, with a slate of new or expanded oil, gas, refining and petrochemical projects in the works. E&PM also manages the Company’s Research & Development Center where scientists investigate topics such as the desulfurization of crude oil, advanced fuel formulations for next generation combustion engines, and reservoir nano-scale robots (Resbots™) for injection into reservoirs to record their properties.
